Have you ever felt alone, friendless or just ‘not welcome’? Many of us have at one time or another. This happens with the young people in our Bright Futures Project too –feeling that others look at them differently or avoid them. To help them not feel isolated, we started doing special activities on Sunday afternoons with the teenagers from both the Children’s Place and Bright Futures. Together they play basketball, have meals, make cookies and enjoy group games. From these afternoons together, our Bright Future kids are making new friends, talking with other teens and feeling respected by them. It’s another step to integrate the street children into a real community—and to help them realize that they’re not alone.
